Writing Quirks? :)
Any of you have any quirks while writing? I know that while I write and I want to describe an action, I might end up doing that action. Such as, if my character "winks slyly" I'd probably wink slyly and try to find another way to describe it. Or, if my character sighs, I'd sigh. Or, if my character is trying to get the attention of another character, I might wave my hands in the air. Or, my favorite, to an outsider I may be randomly raising my eyebrow at the computer screen when really my character has just raised his/her eyebrow.
xP
Also, when I get really into writing, I'll just start pacing around the room. Around and around and around.
Ahhh...writing. <3
So, what are your writing quirks?

Re: Writing Quirks? :)
Oh my gosh, I do that too! I make facial expressions all the time when I'm writing. Especially during intense scenes I tend to look angry and I've had people ask me what on earth was wrong.
I tend to rub my forehead when I'm thinking something. I guess it helps or something.

I can totally relate. I do the same while writing. Or I'll randomly smile or snicker to myself because of something funny my character said. &in tense situations, I'll get all jumpy & my face will be like two inches away from the screen lol.
Writing has got to be the most weird yet fun thing to do.

Now I feel weird, because all I do is stare blankly at the screen, frown, or smile. If I'm writing something intense, my heart will start racing, but that's about it. I do like a cup of tea with my writing, if that counts. And some classical/epic soundtrack music. They sort of work as stimuli to get the creative juices flowing.
Oh, but I have tried things out myself, to see if there's a different way an action can be described. It helps me picture it sometimes. (I don't get weird looks, because I write in my room by myself. )

lol these are funny to read and I sooo do all of these! I like to write in my room (I have a lot of dogs so its probably the only quite place around) and I have a mirror wall and I'll look up from writing and I'll have the funniest/weirdest looks on my face its hilarious!

I always have soundtrack playing too. Sometimes when I write in public like a coffee shop and I have soundtrack in my earbuds and I'm all in the mode I have to remind myself that no one is really dying or running for their life and that I should probably make sure my face doesn't look like both those things are happening.
Re: Writing Quirks? :)
Lol, you guys! Glad to know I'm not the only one pulling funny faces while writing.
Yeah, but I agree with the soundtrack. I like having my music match the tone of the novel at that particular scene.

@Sarah, that mirror wall sounds SO cool. I want one of those.
I love how we can all relate to all these crazy things we do while writing. I don't like spending much time in my room but I try waking up at like 7am to be up before everyone so I can write then.

Man, I wish at 7AM no one else was up in my house! My mom gets up at 5:30 and my brother often right after that so I basically have to get up at 4 if I want some peace and quiet.
Re: Writing Quirks? :)
Really? What do they do up so early?? lol. My mom's usually up at 9ish. My dad wakes up soon after that &my sister just doesn't wake up before noon.Lizzy wrote:Shahira wrote:@Sarah, that mirror wall sounds SO cool. I want one of those.

Trust me, its best that you don't have one! I have the horrible habit of making faces at myself in mirrors because of it. Which is okay if I'm at home, not so much when I'm around other people... lol
I wish I was dedicated enough to wake up at 7! I'm one of those people who has to sleep in

If you do be prepared
I normally wake up at 8 on school days and like 10 on weekends. I have an older brother who sleeps in until 1 or 2 in the afternoon! I have no clue how he does it

My sister will NOT wake up before noon. Sounds like what your brother does. I just can't sleep that long lol. Plus, I feel like the day was wasted.

Yeah, I kinda wish everyone slept later. My mom does it because it's her only quiet time. My brother because he's eleven and eleven-year-olds go through phases. When I was eleven I was getting up at 5:00 every morning (this was before my mom did...) to go upstairs and WRITE. I was so dedicated. Wish I could still be like that!
Re: Writing Quirks? :)
I wish I was that dedicated too! It's funny how lazy we get once we're in the teen years lol. I think I was A LOT more productive as a kid.Lizzy wrote:Shahira wrote:Really? I know, right? I think part of it was I wasn't serious about getting ready for querying and such when I was a kid. I just wrote for the fun of it. Now it's so much more complicated, plus I have a million more things to do than I did as a kid. Ehh..

Yeah that's true. Being a kid was just so much cooler.Lizzy wrote:Shahira wrote: I wish I was that dedicated too! It's funny how lazy we get once we're in the teen years lol. I think I was A LOT more productive as a kid.

Ha ha. It surprises me, too. As mature and adult as I am, I have a tendency to giggle at karate. O_O My sensei thinks it's cute, lol. <3

Aww, lol! That is cute. Hey, mature people can giggle too.
Re: Writing Quirks? :)
I think the most I ever do is smile when I'm doing something really evil to my characters, like, say, putting them in a painfully awkward situation. It's like my revenge on life. For doing that so many times to me. *sniff* lol.
