Author names
When you are a published author (and yes, you will be! ) What are you going to go by? Your real name? A pen name, perhaps?
I think I'm going to go by my full name, including the E in the middle for Elisabeth. Though I'm not sure. Maybe I'll just go by my first and middle name so I don't have to change anything when I get married.

Re: Author names
I've always thought it was cool to go by a pen name but then again, I want to see MY name on the shelves, not a made up one. I think going by your first & middle sounds like a good idea. I would do that except I don't really have a middle name lol. It's my dad's name. I'll probably stick with first & last.

I know what you mean about your name on the shelf! LOL. I want to be known as me. Aww, you have your dad's name as your middle name? That's really sweet. I don't know why, but it is.

I love that first and middle name idea!!! But I'll probably end up going by my first and last name cause my names really common, it's Sarah Elisabeth, and I know like five people with that name and I live in a small town type area so I think it would be too hard to find me in google searches or something if they only had my name and not my book name. When I get married, I'm going to of course change my last name, but I'm going to keep my maiden name on my books, it just feels right to me I wouldn't do a pen name, I really want to see my name on my books

Really? I wish I had my mom's as my middle name. At least it'd be feminine haha.Sarah wrote:Shahira wrote:I've always thought it was cool to go by a pen name but then again, I want to see MY name on the shelves, not a made up one. For a while, I just wanted my first name. But that would just be weird I think.

Maybe not. Because your name is so cool it might actually look awesome on a book. "Suchandsuch" by SHAHIRA

Yup, it's Elisabeth with an S , my parents wanted to be able to nickname me Lisa, which I don't like so I stuck with sarah. Though, after reading Vampire Academy I love the name Lissa! Two S's instead of one

Until this moment I've never met anyone else who spelled it that way! Love it.

Re: Author names
The caps make it look pretty cool. But then I'd have to have the title be 2+words. Which is okay too.Lizzy wrote:Shahira wrote:

Re: Author names
I'm torn on this subject--I wouldn't use a pen name, because I want to see my real name on that shelf, but I also sort of want to use my mom's maiden name, so I have a better excuse not to change it if/when I get married, because I was using a different last name to begin with. Plus, I think 'Amanda VanHouwelingen' looks and sounds so much cooler than 'Amanda Kurka'. My middle name is Marie, so it really wouldn't work as a last name. Haha, yes, I've put a lot of thought into this.

I like Kurka, its interesting looking and simple in a unique way. I like VanHouwelingen and it does really look cool but you have to think of three thing 1. people have to be able to look you up in google so are they going to remember it? 2. An authors website normally has their full name (well, first and last) in it so are they going to be able to spell it? and 3. Will they be able to pronounce it? They need to be able to pronounce it or at least spell it if they're going to recommend it to friends or ask for it at a library. As long as you're keeping that in mind then I say go for it It really is a cool name!

Re: Author names
Yeah, I don't know what I'll choose at this point. I think my mother's maiden name has a more fantasy feel to it, because it's more flowing, whereas 'Kurka' has some hard consonants that I don't like as much, but that might be just me--and if a website is popular enough, Google usually asks 'do you mean ____?', so if I'm doing well, spelling difficulties shouldn't be a huge deal. That's just how I'm thinking of it--I'll ask my agent for their opinion, when I get one.Sarah wrote:

Yeah, you can ask your agent what they think. Personally I like both of them, and your mother's maiden name does have more of a fantasy feel to it
