Poetry? Lyrics?
I've been writing poetry for about 6 years & I love it. It's one of my favorite things to do, other than noveling of course. Now that I'm learning the guitar, I really want to try my hand at song writing.
What about you guys? Do you write poems or songs?

Oooh, I'm so jealous you can write poetry! Or read it, for that matter. I've never been in to poetry and can't seem to read it and it makes me so sad because there's something so romantic and just...timeless about poetry. I WISH I enjoyed it.
I have written a few songs but I'm terrible at writing lyrics and have never played/sung them for anyone.

I tried poetry and song writing when I went to a performing arts school. It was not good. At all. But I'm sure you'll have better luck than me!!

@Lizzy I bet your songs are good! It's funny because I don't read much poetry but I write it all the time.
@Sarah I think it's just one of those things that when you try too hard, it won't work out. But if you just let it come to you, it will. Kind of like the plot to a story. It plays itself out.
My problem is that my poems NEED to rhyme lol. &sometimes they're just so straightforward. I need to use more imagery.

Re: Poetry? Lyrics?
When I wrote poetry, my poems needed to rhyme, too! I don't really write poetry anymore, but I've tried my hand at songwriting(which...doesn't have to rhyme! ), and I'm much better in that arena, though I can't compose for the life of me. I'm taking a class to hopefully learn how to match chords to melodies.
Re: Poetry? Lyrics?
@Amanda See, if I were to write songs, they'd have to rhyme too. Once I'm better at playing I definitely want to take a class like that.
I'm surprised to see that not a lot of you guys write poetry. I guess I kind of assumed that everyone wrote stories &wrote poetry.
