Welcome to WriteOn, Ann! I was cyber-schooled too! I just graduated from it this year Smile How long have you been cyber-schooled? I did it from 8-12 grade and loved it too much to ever go back to regular school Smile

Hi, I'm Sparks. Or I go by Holly. Either's tickety-boo by me. Smile

1. How old are you?
As old as time itself. Okay, not really. I'm 16.

2. What do you like to write / read?
Uhmm... well, my writing is a little experimental at the moment. It breaks most genres I try to put it into. My main WIP is loosely Romance/Magical-Realism/Psychological... or something. I like reading those kind of genres too, particularly books with an interesting, lyrical writing style. I also adore poetry.
Gah, skimming through, I feel like the only one who doesn't read a lot of YA... O.o Guess I have odd tastes...

3. How long have you been writing?
Ooh... a long, long time. A long long long long time. But I became a writer two years ago. I know the exact date.

4. How long have you been reading?
I don't remember a time when I didn't read.

5. What's a random fact about you?
The object next to me right now is a mummified stoat. Geez, don't ask. It's been sitting there for weeks.

6. It's 4 in the morning. You find yourself in a grocery store and very hungry. What's the first thing you think to buy?
Tangerines. Or maybe some cereal. Most food brands probably wouldn't ring bells with you lot because I'm eengliish. =P

No, no way! Rose wins, always! I mean, she was kick-a**. She saved the world a few times, got to keep David Tennant, and came back later with a really big gun and a time machine. Plus she looks like my neighbour.

Hi! Very Happy
Yeah, uh, I usually like most things I stumble on, but at the moment I'm liking Ted Hughes, Dylan Thomas and also some of the Romantics like Keats and Yeats. Edward Lear is forever a favourite. I know his poems are meant to be silly and non-sensical, but somehow I find them strangely sad. Oh, and John Hegley. Love the guy. Smile
I think I need to wise up on my modern poets. Everything I like at the moment seems to be pretty old and classic.

How about you?

Lol, I don't keep up with anything modern, poetry-wise, so I'm glad you didn't name off a whole lot of people I've never heard of. Razz I love Keats! And Coleridge—I think those are my two favorites. Smile Maybe with T.S. Eliot in there for a close second to those tied for first.

Then there are…Wordsworth, and Blake, and occasionally Browning and Tennyson. It just depends on the individual poem, for them. I actually really really like Dylan Thomas, but I never remember him when I'm thinking of poets. I looked him up after you mentioned him and was like, "Oh, that guy! I like that guy!" Razz Same thing for Coleridge—I know his life story and many of his poems, but I had to search random phrases I could remember to find his name. Laughing

I'll have to look up Edward Lear! I don't think I've read anything by him before. Strangely sad is my kind of thing. Smile

Heeeelloooo Sparks. Nice to meet you.

You are not the only non-YA-er. The other non-YA-ers just…never…come round. O_o

Ahem. Rose IS kick-butt. I love her. In the order of things, it goes Donna, Rory, Rose. (Though somewhere in there they are going to be dethroned because Clara Oswin Oswald?? Yissss.) But she is not my FAVORITE. Donna is. Because Donna makes him snap out of his moping, and she's not in love with him, and she is just fabulous.

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Post  bribrimcb on Wed Jan 09, 2013 5:11 pm

Hello everyone! I suppose I'm here to introduce myself. Welp, here it goes...

My name is Brianna (pronounced like Bree-Anna) but you can also call me Bri or Brish. I'm 13, but most of my friends are adults, so people often think I'm older. I like to read YA Fantasy and Sci-Fi, but will occasionally read realistic YA as well.
I've been writing since I could hold a pencil, and I'm been reading since I was two. My first book was Dick and Jane. Wink
A random fact about me? How about a few?

- I was once allergic to dairy, and now I truly appreciate the wonders of cheese. It's one of my favorite foods.
- I'm obsessed with Doctor Who, Revenge, Supernatural, and Sherlock, but primarily Doctor Who. I still cry every time I watch Doomsday (ROOOOOSE).
- When I'm procrastinating writing (which is almost always) I'm on Tumblr. The fandom side of Tumblr, not the hipster side. I am the person who ruins all the hipster posts with fandom references and always has feels about something (but most of the time Doctor/Rose and the events of The Angels Take Manhattan).

I would post more, but this post is getting too long. Sorry! I'm a rambler.
What would I get at the grocery store? Chocolate. Lots of chocolate. Preferably Milk, Dark, or Caramel. Or all three.

It's nice to meet everyone!

Nice to meet you, Brianna! Welcome to WriteOn! Smile I myself am obsessed with Sherlock and Merlin. I feel a Doctor Who obsession coming on like a bad cold, but I've been resisting—I currently don't have time to devote to it. Razz But I definitely will once I've finished this bout of edits…(I've said this for about a year. Crying or Very sad)

Thank you! I've been meaning to try Merlin, and I heard its next season was canceled. Tumblr has been pretty broken up about it. And speaking of seasons, WE NEED A SEASON 3 OF SHERLOCK ALREADY! ;D
You're going to loooooooooooooove DW!

Yep, Merlin's ending at series 5. I've read that that's all they'd planned initially, but that they were in talks for possibly doing a 6th, and then everyone decided against it—everyone but the fans. Crying or Very sad I've currently got three episodes left, which I'm holding hostage against myself to finish editing. Razz I WANT ARTHUR TO FIND OUT ABOUT MERLIN'S MAGIC. Sad And Sherlock…I need series 3. Badly.

:DDD Sherlock! Merlin! Doctor Who! Those are like the only three things I've ever watched TV-wise... yay. Benedict Cumberpatch is mm-hm Wink

Oh gosh, I forgot about Rory. Actually I wasn't sure if he counted companion-wise, because he's really more like Amy's companion, like the companion of a companion... anyway, I reckon Rory wins Very Happy Particularly robot-centurion-Rory. He was a cool guy.

That's true about Donna. I like the snap-out-of-moping factor. That episode with the Doctor-Donna has to be one of the best. Oh, so sad... Sad If the Doctor-Donna were allowed to exist, things would be so awesome... alas, it was not to be. *sigh*

GREAT! NEW MEAT. I mean. Hi, Brianna, nice to meet you. Very Happy As you can see from my post just before your arrival, I also love Doctor Who. (And Sherlock.) And I also haunt the Tumblr (Don't post much, but I love watching the Tumblrites be Tumblrite-y). As a friend of mine said once, You are from the internet. I know, because I am from the internet as well.
…So it is not as funny ON the internet. But it cracked me up IRL. Razz
Anyway, we are glad to have you around! ^_^

@Sparks—Rory is totally a companion. And he is amazing. If that man wasn't so dang in love with Amy, I'd probably go find his younger, single self and marry him myself. XD

Doctor-Donna. *sniffs* I try not to think about it. It makes my feels curl up in the fetal position. *mopes*

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Post  mootstrap on Thu Jun 20, 2013 11:52 pm

Hi, I'm Mootstrap (Internet handle, obviously). I've been a long-time aspiring author but I'm new to networking and blogging. My newborn blog is pretty empty right now, and for that I apologize, but if you have a few minutes to spare, give it a glance and maybe-just-maybe consider coming back or commenting once in a while. I'd love to meet and talk to some fellow writers and readers:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

So -
1. How old are you?
I am 17 years old. 18 in half a year and very excited for all the pub food and casino buffets that will become magically accessible to me once that happens.

2. What do you like to write / read?
I like to write YA urban fantasy/magical realism. Subgenres include thriller/mystery and romance is present but takes a backseat to the story in general. I read everything from dry classics to horror to general fiction and YA and then some non-fiction here and there. I don't have much preference but I do have a slight aversion to high/epic fantasy, and the more complicated sci-fi.

3. How long have you been writing?
Writing stories since I was a kid. I can't remember the exact age I was at, but I was old enough to know how to use my older sister's printer and I would print, like, ten-page stories out of it. (Because I was foolishly using 18-pt font.) Then I would get into trouble for it.
But I didn't start writing seriously, like with the aim of publication, until I was about ten. I took a writing hiatus between thirteen and fifteen and now I'm back on pages and happy to be here again.

4. How long have you been reading?
Since I was three. I know because my parents sent me to kindergarten at age 4 and they wanted to prepare me a year early. So they had my older sister sit down with me every day and read books to me, and eventually I would memorize the words and recite it back to her ("reading", in a way) but it didn't take long after that for me to actually recognize how reading worked.

5. What's a random fact about you?
I'll go to dental school.

6. It's 4 in the morning. You find yourself in a grocery store and very hungry. What's the first thing you think to buy?
Probably strawberries. Most grocery stores have these little plastic containers of pre-sliced strawberries that are so convenient.
