Re: What are you reading? :)
Here's the official synopsis:
"Meet Ed Kennedy—underage cabdriver, pathetic cardplayer, and useless at romance. He lives in a shack with his coffee-addicted dog, the Doorman, and he’s hopelessly in love with his best friend, Audrey. His life is one of peaceful routine and incompetence, until he inadvertently stops a bank robbery. That’s when the first Ace arrives. That’s when Ed becomes the messenger. . . .
Chosen to care, he makes his way through town helping and hurting (when necessary), until only one question remains: Who’s behind Ed’s mission?
I am the Messenger is a cryptic journey filled with laughter, fists, and love."

Re: What are you reading? :)
It's very interesting. It reminds me of Thirteen Reasons Why sans the suicide.
Re: What are you reading? :)
Thirteen reasons Why was such an amazing book.
My sister read the Hunger Games trilogy &is forcing me to read them. Still haven't gotten to it though.
I'm currently reading Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver which is pretty good so far. Has anyone else read it?

Haven't read that one! And you should definitely read Hunger Games, Fearless. The first book especially is GOOD. And if you like romance of any sort, you'll really enjoy it too.
Re: What are you reading? :)
I just finished rereading the Wind on Fire Trilogy by William Nicholson(amazing!), and I'm starting a reread of Sabriel, of Garth Nix. They're some of my inspiration books, to keep me going while I finish the mega rewrites of my first novel. Next to be reread, after the Abhorsen trilogy is done, is The Goose Girl, and then the Ranger's Apprentice series, though I might switch those last two if I need to refresh my knowledge of the workings of bows. That's how I do my research--read authors who've already done theirs. Because I'm lazy like that.
p.s. So as not to present the appearance of sacrilege, I've already checked off Harry Potter on my rereading quest. There's plenty of new books out there that I'm dying to read, but I must wait for the funds to go out and get them.

The Messenger sounds really good! I haven't read 13 reasons why but I've been wanting to. I read Before I Fall though and it was so amazing!!!

@Lizzy I LOVE romance. Love stories are my favorite. My sister says I'll like it because there's romance in it lol. I'll definitely give it a go.
@Sarah I'm on day three so far &it's just amazing. She really makes the characters come to life.

It gets even better the further you get into it! I love day 5 the best (or at least most of it) but the ending... no words, you'll see

@FearlessChick - you love romance? READ IT. I get so caught up in it. I cried my way through half of the 3rd book because I was so involved. 'Nuff said, just read it!
Re: What are you reading? :)
Teen Angst? Naaah... by Ned Vizzini.
I've also read It's Kind of a Funny Story.
He's fun to read.

I was just researching Ned Vizzini the other day because a movie came out based on "It's Kind of A Funny Story" - would you recommend him?
Re: What are you reading? :)
I haven't read all of It's Kind of a Funny Story for over a year but I have good memories of it. It's not amazingly mind-blowing but it's enjoyable and has some great ideas I'm jealous of - like the protagonist's hobby of drawing people like city maps, especially their heads and brains. It's about depression, but it's not very dark, or too light. The protag's relatable, it's funny... it's a good book.
I don't know what you're interested in, but I'd give it to someone fairly interested in realistic YA.

Re: What are you reading? :)
Holy carp fish, this thread exploded, didn't it! The writers I mentioned, waaaaaay back on page one, well, one is new and the other has been around for a while. John Flanagan, author of the Ranger's Apprentice Series, is the one who's been there for a bit. Kevin James Breaux is a debut author, though, again, Soul Born is adult fantasy and not appropriate for the youngins.
I never read the Hunger Games either, though I know I should. At first I thought it was about werewolves and I refuse to pick up anything vampire/werewolf anymore flabbergasting, ain't it? But, after finding that it's NOT about any of that, I have put it on my TBR list

Not at all! Usually first sign of vampire/werewolf and I've lost interest too.
Re: What are you reading? :)
I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Gray. I absolutely adore Wilde's writing style! <3
Re: What are you reading? :)
@Mayaah didn't they make a movie called "Dorian Gray"? It looked kinda scary. I don't know if that's the same thing. What's the book about?

Oh good, it's not just me then
Re: What are you reading? :)
@Sarah Day 5 was really good! I just loved the end of, Day 6, was it? When Kent drives her home. I couldn't believe the end. I just thought somehow things would end different, you know?
@Lizzy I'm such a crier, I'm thinking I'll like it lol. I'll definitely get to it soon.

Mmm...I don't know if they made a movie! I have to look it up. But I can see how it could be kinda scary. The book's about this guy named Dorian Gray who is really pure in the beginning, and "sells his soul", so to speak, to keep him young as a picture/portrait of himself grows old and reflects all the bad things he did in life. Wow, that was a bad summary, but I think that's how the story goes. I'm only half-way into it. It's quite psychological and intriguing.
Re: What are you reading? :)
Yeah, that sounds about right! It looked like that kind of thing. I always feel so un-writerly when I don't realize a movie was a book.
Re: What are you reading? :)
Lizzy wrote:What's currently half-finished on your bedside table at the moment?
unfinished books?
well I've got:
- the host, by Stephenie Meyer
-le père Goriot, by Balzac
-Pride and prejudice, by Jane Austen
-Waylander by David Gemmell
I think that's all (not sure) xD
Re: What are you reading? :)
Wow! *is impressed* Do you read many French books, Stephen? And if so, are there any easy reads you could recommend? I should probably be adding French (fiction, please) to my repertoire.
