Little vent? :( Empty Little vent? :(

This is what this forum is for, right?

So... I'm having a hard time today as a writer. I was going through my old novel and reading and I was seriously disappointed with my writing. I've read some good books and I know what good writing is, and I was just so ... from lack of a better word, disappointed!

So now I'm feeling discouraged and wondering how long it will take for my writing to get better, at least to the point of being reasonable, since I've been doing this for 6+ years. Sad *big huge sigh*

I have SO MUCH WORK to do on this novel and .... it's a different kind of work than I expected to have to do. My story is fairly solid, and so are my characters and the world itself, I think...but my writing...?

Ugh. Okay. That's all. I'm just not having a good day. Maybe I'll wake up and be OK tomorrow, and ready to dig in to things. But I'm disappointed.

Did I say that already? Neutral

Aww, I'm sorry. I have those days, too. I just remind myself that what I've written doesn't define my writing--it can only get better from here. Wink When I read what I did recently and see that it isn't so good, I try to note what went wrong and do the best I can from there. (It's supposed to be practice, but I usually go back and fix it anyway.)

Probably the best thing you can do, is refuse to be discouraged. Keep trying. Laugh in the face of disappointment, even if you don't feel like it, because one day you will be great, and you can rest on that knowledge. Remember that you have a huge head-start on most writers. So even if it does take a little longer for your writing to become *acceptable to you, time is on your side. Smile

*You are your worst critic--it's probably not that bad. Very Happy

Yeah, Renee pretty much covered everything I was going to say.

I'm sure it's not that bad, in fact, I've read excepts of it and it was amazing! Some of the best writing I'd seen, and that's saying a lot cause I read a ton. Your just being hard on yourself, every author gets those moments where they think their writings bad. and then other people like us read their books and are like "What are you talking about?!? Its amazing!!!"

Any of us are willing to read some for you if you want and comfirm your awesomeness Smile

Lizzy, I often feel the same way. :/ Just because I haven't been writing stories for as long as most of you guys on here. I was writing poetry for years before I started. But it looks like the girls already gave you some good advice. :] I hope it gets better for you.<3

Thank you Shahira! I wish I could write poetry. There's something so romantic about it, but I can't seem to get in to it. :/

Maybe if you keep trying you can get the hang of it. :] Problem is, writing poetry comes naturally to me whereas writing stories is a little more forced. But I WANT to write stories, it's just so much harder for me. :/ So I guess every situation has it's pros & cons lol..

Yeah, totally! Poetry does not come naturally to me, haha. But you know, you improve with practice in many things and from what I've read of your work I didn't think it was bad at all. You have real potential, and if you keep reaching for it you're going to go so far. That's just honest.
