Misspelling words whilst writing
Continuing a discussion ...do you make the craziest (and dumbest) mistakes while you're writing? For example, there is my famous "loose" instead of "lose" (seriously, I did it every time in my manuscript without catching myself! :O)
What about you?
What about you?
Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
'Breath' and 'breathe', sometimes(usually) forget the 'e', then have to catch it later. Or, in some cases, not at all, lol. I couldn't spell 'thorough' for a long time, and I couldn't get it close enough for the dictionary to stop saying 'do you mean "though"?' So irritating, haha. Oh, and 'throat'! I always wanted to spell it 'throught' or something. I do make the 'lose' and 'loose' mistake, but I always catch it right after I type it, because I know I have that problem and will always check, even if it's right. I'm a serial mis-typer on lots of words, but the little red underlines always keep me from obvious ones, and habitual homophone abuse keeps me on my toes with the others.
Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
Pretty much the same as Amanda said--I know my faults, and I keep an eye out for them. I also have a hard time remembering how to spell 'consciousness'. Oh look, I did it on the first try! I just recently got that down.
My main problem is, when typing (and sometimes when writing, since I'm so used to typing), putting all of the letters out of order. They'll all be there, but mixed up, because my fingers just press down when they feel like it. (I only type with my pointer & middle fingers and thumbs.)
'what' becomes 'waht', 'and'--'adn', 'you'--'yuo'. I'm constantly deleting and retyping. Maybe I should look into typing correctly…with all of my fingers…and home keys--stuff like that.

Thats the same as me Renee! I get all the letters but they just are all rearranged. I have the most trouble with loose and lose and for some reason I can never remember to put an h in shelf, which is funny when I read it over but having to correct it is annoying. At least I know now so I don't make that mistake anymore

Same here with the 'breath' and 'breathe' -- all the time! Also mixing up words, like Renee said. LOL!
Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
Renee, how can you NOT use your other fingers while typing?!
I have an issue with 'then' & 'than' lol.. I just NEVER know which one to use. But I guess that's more of a grammar error. Also, I can't seem to spell the word 'accidentally' to save my life but thank God for that red squiggly line, right? :]

@Renee Until Shahira's comment, I missed the bit about your typing. How on earth do you type novels with only those fingers!? I HAD to learn to type for part of school... I'm very glad I did.
@Shahira LOL! Me too with 'then' and 'than'! I depend on that squiggly line, too. I misspell long words (err...and short words) often, and I'm so thankful it's there to catch them for me! xD

Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
I don't necessarily have trouble with any particular words. It's more general specific things, but not specific words.
Sometimes I'll type the wrong letter––I use a Dvorak keyboard layout on my laptop, but the main computer is a QWERTY, so I type on both. If I used the main computer all day and then try to type on my laptop, my fingers get confuzzled And vice-versa.
But ya know, the words I misspell the most are the easy ones? Like the(teh). And I put the spaces al lwron g when I'm not careful. And apostrophes hate me. *points to the "I'm"* Had to fix that. It was Im'.

Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
Uh...it's a talent? I did learn how to type with all of my fingers, but it just never became natural. I look at the keyboard while typing, usually--my fingers have it memorized, but I still use vision as a safety net. Then, I just peck away.Shahira wrote:Renee, how can you NOT use your other fingers while typing?!
Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
@Renee I just can't imagine that. Learning to type revolutionized my writing experience. Before then I used to get frustrated at how I couldn't type as fast as my ideas flow (now I type about 80wpm usually, and I still can't type as fast as I think!) I guess you really have pecking down to a science, then? xD
Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
@Lizzy -- Lol, I guess so. That, or I think slow. I've never timed myself, so I don't know how fast I type. It's definitely not 80wpm.
Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
Yeah, Renee' is the slow grape on the vine. jk. But she was one of the few in the typing classes in elementary school that reverted to search-and-peck after rigorous training with the blinder(that plastic thing they put over your keyboard so you couldn't see that annoyed the heck out of me). Plus, I went through a quarter of computer business in early seventh grade, which taught us Mac users how to use Word, Powerpoint, and Excel properly. There was a speed typing game that we did when we had extra time, and I went pretty pro.
Re: Misspelling words whilst writing
@Amanda Echh! That typing class sounds awful. I wasn't a huge fan of learning to type, but I did it. I don't have to look at my fingers anymore, except sometimes for numbers, but I still make mistakes ... especially in spelling and stuff. Often I just type too fast to think, and so I type sloppily. I learned speed first, never really learned accuracy...xP
