Yep, He's a Writer.
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, OH MY GOODNESS.
My little brother is writing.
*celebrates* *dances in circles*
It's super cute. I read his story, and he has characters (down to descriptions), and races (Axlings. Dwarf-sized people that like axes. Egors: eagle-headed people that fly), and something that wants to be a storyline (there's a war of some kind)!! *dances some more*
I like him better already.
Anyone one else have family members that write, be they parents, siblings, or distant long-lost cousins?

Re: Yep, He's a Writer.
Hahaha. My mom is a genius, and she can basically do whatever she wants. I am fully positive she'd be a NYT Bestseller if she wanted. My dad is full of awesome stories, but he doesn't like to write. My sister is the same, and she has no grasp of the English language whatsoever.
My mom's mom actually is a writer. Other than that, I dunno.

@Taryn No wonder your such a good writer! (at least if #2 on that short story contest was yours. I think it was. But I couldn't remember. It was really good either way! ) it has to be awesome to have so many writers/story tellers in the family!
@Constance Yay!!! That is awesome!!! I think I would like my sister better if she wrote, but alas she was born without a storytelling imagination. Oh well, yay for your brothers love of writing!!!
No writers in my family just people that look at me crazy when I start talking about what imaginary characters are doing today *sigh* I'm all alone

Re: Yep, He's a Writer.
My mom loves reading, but doesn't really enjoy the whole writing thing. Renee'...nah, she hates writing, why even mention her? Now, my brother--he's "writing" a story that's basically just mixing up the plots and worlds of his favorite fantasy books. And he's gotten about three-quarters of a page...and it's been nine months, lol.
Re: Yep, He's a Writer.
@Taryn So... many.
@Sarah You're not completely alone! You have us.
@Amanda Aw, come on, who DIDN'T start writing by writing fanfics of our favorite books? How old is he?

Re: Yep, He's a Writer.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO You guys have it all wrong! No one in my family writes! No one is good at it! Other than my grandma (who quite honestly isn't very good. She writes tiny little articles for nature magazines and stuff. Nothing creative for her), no one has ever written.
My sister doesn't even understand the English language.
My dad has no interest in putting words together.
My mom prolly could, but she'd have to work for YEARS. (whenever she betas my stuff, she's like "ADVERB HERE! Omg, if you said this in this way TOO, the reader would be sure to get it!" as I cringe at the adverbs and repetitiveness and weak verbs and everything we're not supposed to do)
So yeah. I'm as alone as the rest of you.

Awwww, Constance, that's SO CUTE!!
My mom writes, and she's really helpful to me. She was my original inspiration. My sister COULD write (she used to do short stories and stuff with me) but I think she felt blown out of the water by all my novel-writing so she set her heart against it. She's a great storyteller, so I know she could do it. Also, my little brother writes stories, though they're all strange.
I think anyone in my family really "could" if they wanted to, but the rest really just choose not to. HOWEVER, they understand that I do, and have learned to give me LOTS of space when I'm writing.

Re: Yep, He's a Writer.
@Constance--I know, and I'd be all "AWW he's following in my footsteps" if he were 12, or not a jerk all the time(he's uncommonly vexing, according to many outside sources). He's 15. I'm just put off by his condescension and belief that he will automatically be the best writer in the family when he gets to writing something. I have encouraged him to go for it, anyway, but he actually hates writing, and has always hated it, so I don't know why he thinks it's a good career choice for him. I'll be like "Alex, instead of watching TV/throwing things noisily while I'm doing hmwk, you could work a little on your book" and he'll totally reject the idea. He typed out a sentence and thought he was made of creative genius.
I'll admit to writing a lot of Warriors fan-fic before and around middle school (it had cats! ), but I was fully aware that it would never be published because it was based on something already done. He thinks that if he grabs ideas from several different books, no one will notice, and he'll get published anyway. Despite my, and Renee', and my mother's attempts to encourage originality. He's seriously considering naming his male MC Merlin, though we've all thoroughly explained the problems with this. "Published" is his goal, for the money.
@Taryn--My mom does the same thing when going over my book, lol.

Re: Yep, He's a Writer.
@Amanda Oh, gosh. a 15-yr-old is an ENTIRELY different story. Even if he is a novice writer, just common sense should tell him that that kind of thing won't work.
But then... common sense is like an oxymoron. Go figure.
@Taryn Is this non-English-speaking sister the one named Quinn?
@Lizzy Well, that's better than nothing! My family knows that I write, but I don't think most of them understand. I think, if anyone, Daddy understands (which is ironic, cause he hates writing––sitting still that long? As if!). And even if he doesn't, he's the most encouraging.
My older sister writes... I think. *ponders* Well, she says she does. I'm not sure what that actually means... :p

Re: Yep, He's a Writer.
A cousin of mine writes poetry & he's pretty good. :] But no one(that I know of) writes novels. So far, I'm the only one lol. I wish more people in my family did though.
