Quiet around here. *sets off fireworks*

QUESTION: What's your favorite setting to read a book in? Do you prefer quiet? Do you like to snuggle up on a particular chair? Do you read on the go? Under the dinner table?

*ducks as rogue firework goes whizzing around*

I can read pretty much anywhere (except near a TV!) but I prefer reading in a quiet area. My favourite spot to read would have to be in/on my bed. Nice and cozy!

*cheers at the pretty fireworks*

I agree, I can read in pretty much any setting (except a car, or near the TV cause I'm too tempted to watch instead Embarassed). But I most prefer reading late into the night on my bed after everyone else is asleep (I'm a night owl). Very Happy

I'm reminded of Mary Poppins.

@Scribbler Mmm, I agree. Definitely.

@Dragontamer I'm not a night owl but there's definitely something special about staying up into the wee hours reading!

And I can't read in the car either. Motion sickness. silent Or around my many siblings during dinner/crazy hour. Or basically anywhere loud.

I can read nearly anywhere. Not near the TV. I usually read with music on. Smile

I love fireworks.

Woohoo! I'm the only one that can read around a tv!!! Really well actually, but that's because I've gotten really good at tuning everything out Smile I can read anywhere, except in a car, but I prefer to be in my quiet room. I won't read by the tv unless my mom wants me downstairs and I cant put the book down.

I read in my room, quietly. Or in the living room, if no one is down there. I don't really like reading around others, in case I make weird faces or start laughing in response to something, or they decide the silence needs to be filled by conversation, and I can't read around excessive noise. Outside noises kind of make it hard to encapsulate myself in the story world. And I DON'T read in the car! I get crazy bad motion sickness, even just sitting in the back seat where I can't see out the front awakens nausea. pale

I can read anywhere. Like, anywhere. Since I live in a small house with my parents and five younger siblings, it's been kind of necessary for me to learn to tone out distractions. Usually I read on the couch in the living room, or at the kitchen table during or right after breakfast ... But I also like reading in bed first thing in the morning, and on long car rides. I know, I'm weird. I used to absolutely hate reading in the car; it used to make me totally sick to my stomach. When I got to be around 15 or so, that went away for some reason and now I can read fine in the car. Go figure.

@Brigid That's an awesome skill. I have four siblings so I understand. And I can't read in the car. I have never been able to (sick to your stomach = motion sickness) and unfortunately mine didn't go away. It runs in my family. Even if I take motion sickness pills I will still get nauseous if I try to read, write or draw in the car. Imagine how many options that leaves me during 7+ hour trips. Shocked

And reading in bed in the morning sounds so lovely. For some reason I never do. I'll try it tomorrow.

@Lizzy - Yay for big families! Yeah, I understand. Motion sickness used to be absolutely awful for me. Just remembering it now makes me feel like puking... *shudders* Not a good feeling.

Yes, you should try it! It's really nice because, since it's the beginning of the day, you're not all stressed out and you can give all your attention to reading. Smile

@Brigid Yes. Me too. *thinks of something else*

Yes! Now I'm excited. Plus there's a bonus of most of the family still being asleep. Peace and quiet... and a good book. I like how that sounds.

@Lizzy *Also thinks of something else*

Exactly! Once everyone in my family gets up in the morning ... Oh boy. It's absolute chaos. But right when I wake up, it's nice and quiet.

*looking forward to reading Graceling first thing tomorrow morning*

Watch it be one of those mornings my little sister is up at 5AM and in my bed asking for stories. Razz

Um... confession time. I set my alarm for 6:30 and put Graceling next to it so I'd remember to read first thing. I er... went back to sleep. #shame I'll just have to try again.

I have a 19 year old brother, 15 year old sister, 11 year old brother, and 3 year old sister. Smile You?

lol! That's been happening to me lately too. I tried to wake up early this morning, then I fell back asleep and woke up at 10. Ooops. Well, maybe I'll try not to stay up quite so late tonight. Heh heh.

Well, I'm 18 ... Then I have a 15-year-old sister, a 12-year-old sister, a 7-year-old brother, a 5-year-old sister, and a 3-year-old brother. So, sounds like our families are pretty similar! Very Happy

And I always freak myself out by being like, "Hmm. When my brother is 15 I'll be 30. OH MY GOD."
