December! Empty December!

Post  Constance Thu Dec 01, 2011 1:26 pm

Ah, December. The month where people think of being kind, scarfs don't look so out of place (Very Happy), and toes are chilly.

At least, mine are.

Anyway. How is everyone now that NaNo's over?? I know not everyone did it, but for those that did, how'd it go?

For me, it was awesome. I hit 50k, and I can't stop thinking about it, even now. And when I'm not thinking about it, I'm thinking about another story that is begging to be written. And then there is that other story... Really, I think I need to learn to write faster. Razz

But yeah, I'm a happy camper*. ^_^

*Though if I was literally a camper, I might not be so happy, because camping in the cold stinks.

Bahahahaha, scarves haven't looked out of place up here since late August. Laughing But I have heavy-duty slippers, so my toes are not cold. And I've gotten used to my house being between 60 & 65˚F, so I'm not cold when I hang around anymore. Smile

As for NaNo…I got over 30k written. Which is the most I've ever gotten in a month, so…yay! The rest of my word count came from polishing, because I was feeling guilty during the first couple weeks for my time spent polishing instead of writing. And that can't be, because I need to get out on submission, and I can write while I'm on submission. I can't polish while on submission, I can't polish while beta readers are reading, so…polishing has to be my priority. Also, I had to rewrite stuff in my Ch's 3 & 4, so technically a portion is, in fact, new writing, haha.

I would've just given in and admitted to the world that I did not technically write 50k new words, but…they have a 50% off of Scrivener coupon for winners, and I need Scrivener back in my life. My free trial ended several months ago. Crying or Very sad So now that my division of time is more healthy, I hope it will stay that way, and I will blaze through polishing and be able to hand out a clean MS to everyone who wants one! Well, you know, not everyone. Just people that I know. Smile

I was going to make a scarf comment, but Amanda beat me to it. Sad Razz *loves scarves*

Confessions of an edit-aholic: I did Nano, and I wrote over 50k, so I won…it just wasn't all writing for myself. Polishing/editing Amanda's book took over my life, so, like Amanda, I copped out and counted my edits along with what I wrote towards Nano, to make myself feel better. O_o Really, edits are a lot of work and take more time than actual writing…so, yes. I'm a cheater. (I really, really want those free paperbacks from CreateSpace, so I can give one to my friend Becky for her unbirthday. XD) I did get a lot farther in actual writing than ever before, and the quality is immensely improved, so I am semi-content with my achievements. Wink

I also can't stop thinking about my Nano, how wonderful I'll feel when it's complete, how awesome it will be when I reach the climax I've been dreaming of for months(I didn't get that far), so Nano this year was a kick in the pants to establish a consistent writing habit. I am content with this result. ^_^

@Teo- Yes, well, some of us don't have the joy of living up where it gets even minimally cold before the double digit months(and sometimes not even then Rolling Eyes ). My toes are cold. I should probably invest in slippers, since people keep saying they have them, and don't have cold toes. *ponders*

Oooh. Well, that is fair. You really should polish. Just as long as you finish Ariadne and The Slavemaster soon after. Smile

And Scriv! How have you been surviving without it? *can't comprehend*

@Owo- I love scarves too! It really makes me sad that 9/10ths of the year I can't really use them, except skimpy ones for an accessory, which simply isn't the same.

Yay! I'm glad you're satisfied. I hope you finish your book soon. Very Happy

Oooh. There are free paperbacks?! *didn't know this somehow* *excited* I want one too!!! Must edit fast. I'd rather not immortalize my first draft. *scuttles away to do that* *remembers I still have to wait a while* This waiting thing is killing me. Razz

@Constance – Well, you have until June 30, so it's not too much of a rush. You make your books with CreateSpace, use a Nano winner's code, and they do it for free and give you five paperbacks(doesn't include shipping, but still worth it Very Happy). Since I'm not looking to publish publish this story, it's a perfect deal for me. ^_^ (Amanda's not doing it because they give you a real ISBN, so it's actual self-publishing, which we don't want to do for those. Smile)

Oh, it's actually published? O_o Not sure how I feel about that. I mean, I know Defiance is nowhere near publishable and may never be, but I have that faint hope that eventually, maybe, I could make it good enough, y'know? That'd sorta crush the hope. Like a little bitty gnat. Razz

Lol, you said 'gnat' and I was like—are you calling ME a g-nat??? —Uh, no! Just correcting your pronunciation! XD Ahh, Veggie Tales… Razz

Yeah, if you want to publish Defiance eventually, I wouldn't…unless you think you're going to rewrite the entire thing—then it won't be a problem, because none of the words are the same. Just keep the ISBN private, so that no one else can see your book ever, and delete it after you get your copies(not sure if you can delete it, but you could try, haha.). But I wouldn't do it if you don't see yourself rewriting it entirely.

I feel deflated post-NaNo. But (as I said before) Christmas is my favorite holiday, and it just fills my December to the brim! *loves* I'm not really working on anything. I'm kind of floating between two MSs, trying to decide which to write... *sighs* It's so hard.

And I'm pretty sure it's "if I were" camping... I'm not 100% sure. And I can't believe I just corrected you. Shocked

@Renee Hehe. I'm totally going to get my paperback copies! Probably never read them more than once, because the more I look at them, the more I'll see the work that needs to be done, but I do have quite a few months. Like you said. XD

@Amanda OH! Published!? Didn't know this either. But I will do everything in my power to make it private. *determined*

Hello! Taking a breather from dead week/studying/last-minute projects that our teachers randomly assigned us to post here!

NaNo was...interesting. I have this tendency to PLAN OUT EVERYTHING and then just randomly deviate from my plan and get myself in a muddle while I'm drafting. Thus, while I did get done 50 K, most of it was: LALALALA FILLING UP SPACE HAHAHAHA. Plus, half the time that I was working on it, it was past midnight (*waves angry fist at school*) so I was only semi-coherent when I was writing some parts. Eheh...which is why I'm going to go back and rewrite it over winter break.

WHICH REMINDS ME. OMG. THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR THIS SEMESTER IS SO CLOSE, I DON'T EVEN...*flails around*. I'm super excited this time around because due to senior year policies at my school that exempt me from second semester exams, the finals I have this semester are going to be the last ones I take as a high school student!!! SO EXCITED. BUUUT, I still have a whole lot of studying to do before next Thursday (which is the day of my last exam). And then there's that one college interview on the same week...hmmmm.

ANYWAY, yes. REALLY looking forward to having time to read, sleep, and write during winter break. I'm planning on getting my novel done and revised by April so I can start submitting it (as opposed to the other project that I'm slowly submitting now) in time for my birthday...is it weird that my birthday-present for myself is a deadline? o_O I...think I'll just have another cup of tea and go back to work. -_-; Forgive me for the spazzing, guys. I'm currently running on four hours of sleep.

@Amanda- Hmm. Well, I shall ponder it.

@Twin- *snorts* You did. You are turning into a grammar nazi! xD

@Lyla- I understand the...well...the crazies. Razz I actually have a final tomorrow I should be studying for, and clearly that's not happening at the mo... >.>
And spazzing forgiven! Good luck on studying, writing, and sleeping! Very Happy

@Constance I seriously resent grammar nazi. Shocked And if I ever come off that way, it's not my fault!! You can't make a single grammar mistake in this house without someone correcting you. And that someone would be my know-it-a--*coughs* I mean my very smart little brother. Razz

@Lyla SO CLOSE!!! I'm with you on that. Except I don't have a college workload, so I imagine your excitement is 10x bigger than mine. I veer from my plans, too! It's so frustrating. The curse of being a pantser. Razz

@Twin- The fact that your LITTLE BROTHER is the most likely to correct you cracks me up. And then makes me wince for you, because I know, if he was any good at grammar, my little brother would be the EXACT same way. He's already like that with animals! He watches tons of exotic animal documentaries, and he does NOT hesitate to inform me ALL about them if I even mention a tiny detail about any of them. And NO MATTER WHAT, he is ALWAYS right. @Twin Ahhh, little brothers. Razz My little bro will correct me with anything that he knows that I don't. Maybe he derives some kind of pleasure from it. It annoys me to no end, but then I kind of pick it up. (Like the grammar thing.) Now whenever people make grammar mistakes, it jumps out at me way more than it should. *sigh*
