Happy Monday! (You can take that as sarcasm, or just as cheer. It was meant as the latter.)

QUESTION: How do you pick up your motivation when it's lacking, particularly writing/revising/editing/homework-wise?

No idea. Sometimes I just have to give myself a talking-to. Or talk to someone else about it so THEY can give me a talking-to. (Usually the latter. Razz) Sometimes I just decide I'm done being a slacker and do what I need to do, though. AND SOMETIMES THE ANSWER IS CHOCOLATE AND TEA. Twisted Evil

Ditto about the chocolate and tea. :-D

Typically, when I have a hard time finding motivation, I'll spend some time just thinking about the characters, and letting *them* do the talking (which would sound really alarming to non-writers, but I think you guys know what I mean...). By exploring them as people (er, characters), it helps me figure out what has to happen in the plot/what I need to do in revisions.

Oh. And for homework, I just think about the gut-wrenching guilt that I know I'll feel should I neglect to do stuff. :-P

I sometimes go and do something else for some time before I come back to whatever I was doing first Smile

@Twin- Yep. You do. ^^

@Rachel- That's brilliant. I love it. I do that sometimes, but not very often to motivate me...just to get to know the characters if I feel like they aren't coming out like they should. I should try that for motivation next time I need it! Smile
Hahaha. Yes. That's usually how it works for me. Though in some dire situations I'l be stuck with the guilt, but not enough time to do my homework... Shocked *terrible procrastinator sometimes*

@Stephen- I've tried that, but it never really works for me. O_o I'm glad it helps you, though! Very Happy

@Rachel, exploring the characters is super helpful for me, too.

I also like going places where no one can hear me and talking through the plot or characters with myself aloud. Thinking out loud is so much easier for some reason, even if I occasionally feel crazy doing it. Razz

Tea and chocolate are also wonderful!

Oooh, I like that! Characters DO help. A lot! And guilt is definitely a good motivator. O_O Or stress, in my case. If I think about how stressed I'll feel if I neglect to do something... it will often motivate me.

Wish I could do that, and have it work! But I know if I walk away, it won't get done. ^^

*nodnod* I solemnly believe that a good character can fix almost every problem. flower

Another suggestion I've heard is to write the character into a box--an impossible situation--and see what happens. I've never tried it, as I've never had the heart to do something that awful to my characters, but I might as soon as my test tomorrow is over. *crosses fingers*

Also, I have to say that I'm nervous about this special guest who'll critique the entries, because I submitted a relatively random piece... *gulp*
