I'M FREE!

The academic term at my university has finally finished, which means that I'm finally back! Now I can, y'know...write! and read! and do other fun stuff related to Write On!

How has everyone been over the past few months?

Hey, Rachel! Glad to have you back! I've been alright—had some really slow months, editing-wise, but things are starting to pick up, so I'll FINALLY be done polishing my novel this month. It's exciting.

@Sarah — Awesome! Time for a Write On reunion. I have been fairly well, although somewhat astounded by the fact that WOWISUDDENLYHAVEFREETIME. Now I just have to figure out which projects I want to work on for the summer...

@Amanda — Ooh, sounds fun! I'm still trying to reintroduce myself to my own work, so I won't be doing anything readable for a while, but I can cheer you on anyway!

Yes! A WriteOn reunion would be filled with awesomeness! I know what you mean, I was feeling the same way for about a week.... Then the movers brought all our stuff and I was told I had to paint my new huge room by myself... But I'm hoping I'll get the feeling back once my rooms finished Do you have any ideas of what project you want to work on over the summer? I need to rush and finish editing my NaNo novel so I can start on something new.

I have a couple of ideas—I want to return to the world of high fantasy, with all its fun creatures, but with a focus on family dynamics (that makes it sound really boring, but I hope the idea comes across). At present, though, I'm trying to just *finish* the first draft of my not-quite-sci-fi-but-too-high-tech-for-most-fantasy project. Which would be a lot easier if I knew what happened next. I know exactly where the overall story needs to go, and what needs to happen before the end of the first part, but...I just can't figure out what to write about it. I need a reincarnation as a plotter.

That doesn't sound boring! I love when books focus on the family dynamics, those books always end upon being my favorite.

Writers block is no fun but maybe you're just focusing on it too much. Like in my WIP that I'm editting right now, I couldn't figure out a way to fix this one part so I just left it alone for a while and did other stuff and it eventually came to me. Maybe that would help? It doesn't sound like the problem is that you don't love the story so you probably just need the away time to go do fun stuff Or you could do what I do when I'm really stuck, you go track down a sibling or a parent and talk through the story with them. Most likely they won't have any clue as to what you're talking about but I've found it helps

I agree with Sarah, that focusing on family dynamics is nOT boring. In fact, the combination of fantasy and family-dynamics-focus sounds amazing. I want to read. You should do it!
