100 Days 100 Words

Post  Sarah on Mon Jul 09, 2012 1:21 pm

A few of us on WriteOn decided to start a 100 days 100 words challenge. The point of it is to get yourself sitting down and writing and hopefully writing even more than the 100 word goal, but since some of us are editing there are two options for it Smile

1. Write 100 words every day for 100 days.

Or...

2. Edit 10 minutes a day for 100 days.

Today kicks it off but feel free to jump in and start at any point! Smile

Yay! I actually did 100 words yesterday, with 9 minutes to spare before midnight... haha. I ended up doing around 300 words actually. Smile How's everyone else doing?

Ooh! Ooh! I want to join, I want to join! XD I actually wrote 753 words yesterday *cough*by five in the morning*cough*, but I'm going to be healthier about it today, lol. Razz Some of that was editing, some new writing, so I have it covered on both scales. Smile And…I have a bit over six hours to reach my goal for Day 2. I'm pretty sure I'm going to make it. Very Happy

This is actually the best idea ever... today I was like "OK, just do it, it's only a 100 words" and then I wrote 300 words. Smile Definitely helps with that butt-in-chair thing, anyway.

@Amanda YAAAYY! Glad you're joining! And I'm trying to figure out the before-five-AM thing. O_o

@Alyssa I know, right?? I almost forgot to do my words yesterday, but I made myself sit down and write at 11-something last night, before I let myself go to bed, and ended up doing like 200 instead of 100. It's awesome! Very Happy

I've been a terrible forum-member lately (mostly because I've been writing, so that's good, right?), but I'm poking my head in to say that I'm doing the challenge, too! Smile I'm using it to work on CM, my terrible little beast of a WIP (I love it anyway).

Just wanted to check in and say I've met the 100 words/10 minutes goal every day this week so far. ^_^ Aaaand…I finished major edits on my last chapter! Very Happy I only have about 7k left of major-ish edits left, and then polishing(on 130k, so it might take a week), and then I'M DONE. bounce Very Happy

Y'all are doing so awesome! I've been absent from the blog for a day or two because of relatives coming to visit but I have been meeting the goals... Just barely, it's actually kind of sad, but they leave soon so then I can start going over the minimum goal like I had plan too.

@Alyssa That's so great! That's what I love about this, most of the time I end up going way over than I planned to because I'm already writing.

@Amanda I'm glad you decided to join! You're getting so much more done than I am lol Are you working on one WIP in parts or are you working on more than one?

@Rachel Don't feel bad! Writing is always good Smile I'm glad you joined! It's so much more fun to do when a lot of other people are also!

@Sarah—I'm editing/doing a little rewriting in the same MS. I'm done with all the rewriting though, I think, so now it's just line edits and minor detail fixings. I only have five scenes that need more major voice work, but that's mostly tweaking what's already there. So no more 'word' goals for me—just time. I've already met the 10 minutes for today, too, but I hope to do another five hours at least, haha. Smile

@Amanda Woohooo!!! Good for you!

@Rachel YAY! So glad you're doing it, too! And that's a totally awesome excuse for being absent. Very Happy

So far I've actually forgotten one day. Sad *bows head in shame* I'm trying not to let it bother me deep inside, like these things do, so I'll stop talking about it now. Every other day, however, I've hit 100 words or more! And I'm making some kind of odd progress. I've kind of been dancing between two novels which is... weird. Chaotic. And ... yeah.

It's all good, though!

@Amanda That's great!! Tell us when you finish and we can have a celebration Smile

@Maggie Don't let it bother you! The advice authors give to writers is that in order to write you have to go out and live sometimes so you can count that day as getting inspiration Very Happy

@Alyssa Thanks for the encouragement! Smile

So...I failed yesterday. Yesterday, after days of writing at least 1k, and more on some, I wrote...30 words. Yeah.

*headdesk*

Today. ALL THE WORDS. *determined face*

@Matt Good for you!! Very Happy Hope it's going awesomely!

@Sarah Huh. I will *definitely* say that's what it was! But only to feel better, because I don't remember being particularly inspired that day. O_o

@Rachel Aww, it's so okay! Because technically you're ahead! All those 1ks add up. Smile Don't worry 'bout it.

I think I've finally hit my stride. I focused in on just one novel and I've been steaming forward. I wrote 2k yesterday and am eager to write more today. Smile

How's everyone doing?? Smile I've been writing because I want to every day so far. So I guess you could say everything's going smoothly!

I've edited every day, though not as much as I've wanted. My uncle came up from California for a short-notice, five-day visit yesterday, so that kind of threw my editing schedule into the trash, what with frantic cleaning and now being a good host. But I'm managing to squeeze time in, still. My uncle's "helping" my brother mow the lawn(which my bro hasn't done in a month Rolling Eyes), so I'm getting some editing time in right now, haha. Smile

@Maggie I'm starting to be able to do more than just the 10 minutes a day which has been good. I'm glad it's been going smoothly for you! Smile

@Amanda I just had that happen to me! Except it was 7 relatives and they of course wanted to go out and do stuff with us so I was barely home for a week. I'm glad you were able to find time to edit!

Sounds like everyone's making progress, anyway. I finally missed a day but so far it's only been one! Yay. Also I kind of found I was cheating... I kept stopping near 100 words because "that's all I needed to do anyway" (or that's what I told myself). Now I'm going to try to increase it to 1000 words... we'll see how it goes.
