Splurge-worthy
GUYS. So I went to Hobby Lobby today on a mission to get a dress pattern(long story). I was almost out of there, when I walked past a stand...with yarn. On sale. Pretty, pretty yarn. I couldn't stop myself from buying 6 skeins in varying mixtures of blue, purple, and green (with names like "Seaglass" and "Fantasy" and "Bluebell"! *swoons*).
I was just wondering—if yarn is my weakness, what are y'all's? Outside of books, what do you find yourself buying just because of the sheer I-love-this-beyond-so-much factor? What do you find splurge-worthy? (I'm sorry. I've been taught to make titles tie in. I'M SORRY. )

Re: Splurge-worthy
I never actually let myself splurge, but really, every time I go into a crafts store, I never want to come out. The paints, the brushes, the pencils and pens, the shapes, the papers, the notebooks, everything, it's all too much for me. Even the yarn, even though I can't knit yet—I'd buy the whole store and all the how-to's and do ALL THE THINGS. Quite literally. So I purchase none of it.
Re: Splurge-worthy
Ah. Well. I only ever want to buy the yarn. And not all of the yarn. I don't like 100% acrylic yarns... *is becoming a yarn snob* And the leather. I like the leather, too. And the materials. And the patterns to make things with the materials...okay, so I want to buy half the store. Still. Less than you.

Re: Splurge-worthy
*twitches* I'm having trouble answering anything that has y'all's in it. >.<
Ahem.
Anyway.
I, unlike Amanda, DO splurge! But I'm trying to think what my biggest weakness would be, aside from ridiculously delicious treats at Whole Foods. (Can you say gooey chocolate brownie with cream cheese frosting? *dies*) Err... er, nope. Nothin's coming. Sweet treats are probably the #1 thing I make excuses for the purchases of, and can't resist when I see.
Oi! That's terrible!
I should aspire to be more like Amanda. XD

@Twin—I might have wrote "y'all's", paused, erased it, put something else, paused again, and then wrote it again. All for you.
This does not surprise me! I hear about all those tasty things you make. It sounds like a delicious weakness.

Whaa? You DID? Now that just makes it worse, knowing it was there for me. *glares at it* I'll just pretend I never saw it.
And no! NOT a good weakness to have! Not a healthy one! (Though really, I don't splurge THAT much. But it's still too often for my taste.)

Margaret, must I point out that at least you do not splurge on things like twinkies? You splurge on sweets, but there are DEFINITELY worse sweets out there than your picks.

Re: Splurge-worthy
I s'pose. Speaking of splurging on sweets, it's been a while! *dreams of cookies and ice cream and brownies* What to choose, what to choose? XD
Re: Splurge-worthy
I don't really splurge on things, but I do have a soft spot for stationery. (I know, such a writer kind of thing to say.) I never really buy any stationery because I always persuade myself that I don't NEED it, especially because everything I do is on the computer, but it's still nice to wish I could have, you know?
Re: Splurge-worthy
@Twin—Ha. XD Get make some ice cream!
@Matt—Ooh. That is a good one. You should try making your own stationary!

Re: Splurge-worthy
and that is even more the case on holidays, I would often buy something for friends of mine who aren't as lucky as me when it comes to traveling
Re: Splurge-worthy
@Matt Oooh, stationary! It's sooo expensive. But I don't have a real use for it, either, because I rarely write letters. Plus I already have some stationary I've received as gifts, so that's enough to get by with. So usually I'll just stare at the pretty, expensive, awesome stuff longingly and think of the days before computers when there was a use for such things. ^^
@Stephen That's just awesome! Now I feel all selfish.

no reason to feel selfish I just don't have a lot of ideas when it comes to buying something for myself so I just don't spend that much money on stuff for me and consequently I spend it on others
Re: Splurge-worthy
@Stephen - I definitely do that too! I'll spend lots of money on gifts and not a lot for myself.
I do like splurging on office supplies though. I don't think I can ever have enough different kinds of sticky notes or paper clips. I wish I could just buy everything like that in an office store.

Re: Splurge-worthy
I just realized I never responded to this. Heh. (My answer's basically the same as Amanda's, though, so no real loss. XP) Every time I walk into a craft store, I want to buy the entire thing—all the paints and pens and pencils and pastels and paper and…and…(wow…they all start with P…)—but as this is impossible, I buy nothing. When I was there recently-ish, I did get some really nice drawing supplies (except, the colored pencils turned out to be not-so-nice ) and a sprig of feathers for the cats, but I didn't let myself splurge. I'm cheap like that.
@Constance — But, since you're going to end up using all that yarn, it's not splurging—it's investing! (That's what I tell myself about the expensive drawing supplies. )
