Reading: Graceling
Anyone read it? Liked it?
Repeat: I AM READING Graceling. I haven't finished it. No spoilers, please. *big smile*

Re: Reading: Graceling
AAHHHH I love Graceling. That book is the bomb. I've also met Kristin Cashore and she's super cool. Did you know she writes all her books by hand? Yikes. I can't even begin to imagine...
Re: Reading: Graceling
Really? And REALLY? And REALLY!?!? (In order)
I would have to be living on the streets with no access to a computer whatsoever to resort to writing my books by hand. O_O Kudos to her.

Re: Reading: Graceling
Yes! Really really really! Haha, same here. Although, at least writing by hand would keep me from getting distracted by the internet. Only problem is, I can't read my own handwriting. So there goes that option.
Re: Reading: Graceling
I so love Graceling too and I so met Kristin Cashore! She is really cool. I was so glad she travelled down to Australia. And I can't wait for her 3rd novel Bitterblue. Hopefully it will be out by the end of the year.

Re: Reading: Graceling
I loved Graceling! Preferred Fire, actually, but Graceling was pretty good. I enjoy Kristin Cashore's writing, but she has not deigned to come to Alaska, so we have never crossed paths. I've actually never met a published author...it's a bit sad, but also means I've never made a fool of myself in front of a published author, either. I wouldn't know what to say, except, "Can you sign this to me? My name's Amanda. Thank you." *runs away with the book half-signed* XD
Re: Reading: Graceling
@Amanda That's what I'm always afraid of too. Haha O_o But so far I've met Kristin Cashore, Meg Cabot, Libba Bray, and Maggie Stiefvater ... all authors I love, and all experiences meeting them were surprisingly non-awkward and disaster-free. They were all super nice. Maybe all authors are just cool people. ^_^
Re: Reading: Graceling
@Brigid That's it. THAT is why I like you all. You're all awesome cause you're writers. And shall only get awesomer when you're published. *world makes sense now*
I've read it. I loved it. I loved Fire too. I think I agree with Amanda, actually; I loved Fire better. Why does no one say "loved better"? It's always "liked better" or "loved more".
But anyway. I haven't met any published authors in RL either, though I've emailed and talked to them before. I think I wouldn't do TOO terribly in a real life meeting. Just somewhat terribly. It would all be fine, really, once we got past that painful moment where I have to get over my fangirlness.
And the fact that Kristin Cashore writes her books by hand is somewhat terrifying, as well as amazing.

Re: Reading: Graceling
Hi! I'm new. I haven't spoken to anyone on here yet, but just saw this post and though, 'Hey, I've read that!' So, um, yeah. Hullo. (Have to say, this website has some rather fabulous smileys)
To be honest, Graceling isn't the sort of book I usually read, but I did really enjoy it. The whole world was well-done, and I'm a sucker for books with a map in the front. =P Did anyone else notice, though, that whenever the characters laughed, they didn't laugh, they snorted? Just something pernickety that piqued me a bit. People don't snort (usually). But still a fun read.
@Brigid, that's so awesome that you've met her!
I'm friends with an author, and his books are fantastic, so that's my claim to fame. I have a theory that all writers have something about them that connects them. So far, I've got along instantly with all the writers I've met, almost like through some sort of mystical psycho-bond... O.o I don't know. It's cool.

What sort of books do you usually read, then, Spark?
And for the record, I snort. Not EVERY time I laugh, but it does happen. Just saying. But really every time? That is indeed excessive.

Re: Reading: Graceling
Well, um, maybe not every time :P Maybe that was an exaggeration. But I thought it might have made more sense if Kristin Cashore reserved the snorting for just one character.
I don't know, I have a bit of a weird taste I suppose. I don't really read much YA unless it's interestingly written. I like most things, but mainly crazy weird stuff like magical realism and, well, I don't know how to say I like literary books without sounding really pretentious. Hey-ho. :) Enough about me. What sort of thing do you read?

Re: Reading: Graceling
Yes. Just one character would make much more sense!
Like…hm…Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma? (If I got her name right?) That's the most recent thing that I can remember reading that was maybe-possibly magical realism?
I enjoy fantasy. I'm willing to try any genre, but fantasy is always a sure bet. I like weapons and magic and dragons.
YES. AT LAST SOMEONE CHUCKLED AT IT. It makes *me* chuckle every time I read it. XD
