Hi all! Ask me just about anything! It's what I'm here for!

I'll start you: Books to film? Which ones do you love? Which do you wish had been left on the cutting room floor. And. . . go!

So I have two questions, my first being is what are you seeing a lot of at the moment? Or in other words, what can we expect to see popular in a little bit?

My second is do you see New Adult genre becoming as popular as Young Adult genre is now? I've been seeing tons of new books labeled this lately and even remakes of YA books changed to be NA and it feels like it is growing as fast as YA has.

To answer your question now, my favorite book to film would have to be the first Harry Potter movie. It wasn't perfect by any means but I think it captured the essence of Harry Potter which is what is important to me Smile The worst I would have to say is Twilight but that's just mainly because I don't think it has the kind of story for a movie, it's one of those that would have been better left just in a book.

Hi Sarah,

What am I seeing a lot of? Well, there have been a lot of dead mum books lately. I don't know why that theme is in the air. I even had someone lament it to me recently because it was freaking her kid out.

I've also seen a lot of witches lately. Again, not sure why. Maybe it's a desire to find something a bit magical that's not so monster paranormal.

Now to question 2: the rise of New Adult. This is a bit of a touchy subject for me. I don't really believe in New Adult. I don't think that most readers in that age grouping want to be thought of as a separate entity from regular adults (sort of like the stigma often associated with Young Adult). And until you start having specific areas for New Adult in the most visible bookstore locations (ie Barnes and Noble), there's going to be absolutely no difference in where these books are found for consumers, and sales aren't really going to be different.

On the flip side, I think the allure of the New Adult label is that it's a shiny new way to market. And I think in some way it blurs lines that might make adults reading young adult a bit more acceptable.

But, I suppose, only time will tell.
