Marvelous Write On! friends, I give you my most solemn, and apologetic, greetings. I've been a TERRIBLE moderator—my brain has been sucked into the horrendous homework-essay-sleep-homework-essay-sneakteainsomewhere-sleep cycle that so often accompanies the semester. But let's see if we can't breathe some life back into our lovely forums, 'kay?
How have YOU been lately? Read anything good? Working on any lovely new projects? Feel free to share!

*life screams, "DON'T POKE ME I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK."* XP
I have been doing better! I moved house, I've been editing(…like always. -_-), and I've been critiquing. I'm making some tangible headway in the editing thing, due to housesitting at an internet-less house, so that's lifting some of the depression I've been under at the ponderousness of my forward motion. I used to suck so bad even though I thought it was wonderful. X( But progress, it's happening! Progress is good.
I still have like 75k to mostly rewrite, but, you know…that's better than it's been. O_o And I haven't allowed myself to read anything because I've been putting it off for editing. But I have a large stack of pretty, pretty books to read, and they call me sometimes…at night…when I'm alone…

@Rachel Don't worry about it! I have been a horrible one too, mainly for the same reasons. I have been pretty good, I'm getting into the last part of my classes and I can't wait for them to be done. I also am planning on starting a new project once they are over with and I am so excited for it! I love the idea so hopefully it goes well As for books I've read recently... can it be one I want to read? The last book in Kelley Armstrong's Darkness Rising series came out yesterday and I've been wanting to read it for the last year so that's the one I'm most excited to get right now
@Amanda The same thing happened to me when my sister had Confirmation on Wednesday an hour away. I had to take her and there was no internet for almost 3 hours. I got a lot done though! I'm sure you'll make it through the edits pretty quickly! All those unread books will give you motivation to get it done, right? Which books are you most excited to read when the edits are done?

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
@Sarah— HI! I feel like I haven't seen you around/talked to you/anything in like a bazillion years. Anyway, my internet-free housesitting job ended Monday, and I didn't get nearly as much done as I hoped, but I did make a goodly amount of progress. About 14k, actually, and that doesn't include some do-overs when things kept not working…so a net 14k in 10 days. Not what I wanted, but not horrid, either.
So I'm back to my battle with the internet for my time, and since the job ended I have gotten…400 words. BUT I have gone over a couple thousand of what I've already done, and I've critiqued a few pages of a crit partner's novel. And I've been unpacking my house, b/c my family did so little while I was gone. Hopefully I'll start being back in the groove of things today.
Also! I bought an application called Freedom that allows you to set it for however many minutes you want to work without internet(up to 8 hours), and it turns off your internet capabilities until time's up. And that's work time—if the computer goes to sleep, those minutes aren't counted. The only way to get internet back is to completely restart the computer, so I don't cheat. I'm praying it works well for me.
As for books…I think the one I'm MOST ANXIOUS to read is…Mark of Athena. B/c serusly. I've had it for months and months. I still want to reread Lost Hero & Son of Neptune so I can know what's happening on a more detailed level… *SIGH* I need to finish editing. *turns on Freedom*

@Amanda I know! I think I'm going to start trying to make the Saturday chats since everything is starting to get less crazy so hopefully I'll be talking to you all more often, I've missed everyone! 14k is really good! Editing is, in my opinion, harder than the actual writing of the book so I think that's great!
Wow, you've been super busy! Freedom sounds like such a good idea! I think I'm going to look into getting it because I seriously need to spend less time on the internet and more time on editing or writing. Has it been working well for you? Is it expensive?
The titles of those books sound interesting! Who are the authors for them? I know I shouldn't be getting books right now because I'm supposed to be working on, well, work but I think if I bought a book and told myself I'm not allowed to read it until I'm done with editing then I'll be motivated to do it. How much editing do you have left right now?

I'm back! *staggers in*
Amanda, that Freedom app sounds like the BEST THING EVER. I may need to investigate that... *strokes chin thoughtfully*
Sarah, it's so great to hear that you're in love with an idea! I adore that weird rush that I get whenever I fall in love with a new idea.
At first I thought it was just my problem, but it seems like this has been a really weird couple of months for everyone. Not necessarily BAD, just...weird. For me, personally, this has meant that while lots of SuperAwesomeStuff has happened in my academic career (if one can call being a full-time student a career...), very little has occurred with my writing. :/ We should schedule a Write On! group writing/editing session.

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
@Rachel Thanks! I'm super excited, I just need to get motivated to sit down and write. A year or two ago I did that 100 words 100 days thing with a bunch of people on WriteOn and I may try that again
It’s been the same thing with me and my school. I've had a lot of awesomeness academically but not a lot of time to write, and being a full time student I would consider it a career . I love the idea of a group writing/editing session! We should try to find a time that would work for a bunch of people and have one. Maybe we could have a poll on the forums and ask when would be good for everyone?

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
@Sarah—Editing is so much harder than writing. So it's good I guess that a lot of this stuff is rewriting instead? Also, Freedom has been working VERY well, and it's only $10, so I felt justified in shelling that out in order to be productive. I think there's a five-session trial version you can download for free, to see if you like it enough. It might only be three sessions, but yep.
As for the books, they are by Rick Riordan. Basically my favorite. As for editing…I finished my last chapter last week and I'm in the middle of my first chapter. I've been stuck on the first pages, but I'm finally past them! Now I have major-ish editing/rewriting to do through like 60k, and then just line-editing for the 55k after that. Hopefully my word count will go down by like 5k… O_o *crosses fingers* >_<
@Rachel—IS best thing ever.

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
Uh hello. I'm not to sure how this forum works, though that's usually because I over think everything. Anyways hi. As you could probably tell I'm new. I really need motivation and tips and skills to write so I'm hoping this site and forums help.
I have one book idea that I'm really proud of, but right now I'm at the "doodling the characters and trying to convince myself to start jotting stuff down stage"
I really like to read to, the last new book I finished was Clockwork Princess. I'm about to start Divergent based off of a friends recommendation.
So yeah, Hi, nice to meet you all.

@Amanda If it is that cheap I'll have to try it out! Fingers crossed that it works! How has editing been going? The first few pages are always an issue for me too so if you need anyone to look it over I would be happy to
My novels always run a bit short at like 55-60k so I can't even imagine cutting out 5k! Are you having to cut out entire scenes or just a lot of little stuff here and there?
@Evil_Cupcake Welcome to the forums! Normally people are on more often, but school has been crazy with a lot of us. If you have any questions feel free to ask
Do you think you'll start writing the novel soon? I feel like getting started is one of the hardest parts.
I have yet to read any of the books in the Clockwork series, did you like them? I have read Divergent though and actually met the author at a signing last year. It was awesome! Let me know what you end up thinking about it

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
@Sarah—I hope Freedom works for you! Editing has been going…slowly. But I'm 400 words away from being 20k in, and I keep hoping it'll pick up soon. My word count's been going down by streamlining events(cutting smaller details so I can work things together in shorter ways), as well as little things here and there—and by little things here and there I mean that I'm replacing all the words and accomplishing more with less of them. I've also got I think four scenes that I'm replacing; they'll accomplish the same goals, but in pretty different ways, and with more excitement and less words! YAY.
So far I've managed to cut 4k(all from the first 20k, so that used to be the first 24k. ), and I think I can wring at least another 2k out of the rest of the MS without much difficulty. I'm hoping for another 4k, though. That'll put me right around 114k, which is much more pleasing to the publishing eye. XP
ALSO if you really would be happy to maybe take a glance at my first five pages or something to see if they're working, that would be really cool. Sometimes I think I like them and sometimes I think they're horrible, so the perspective of someone who hasn't read them before would be really great. ^^

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
@Amanda Thanks! And being 20k in is great! Maybe you can try the 100 words 100 days challenge but change it to editing, that might help it pick up
If you already cut 4k from the first 20k then I'm sure you won't have too much problems reaching your end goal for length . And Beta readers will always find more stuff that you can cut so that will help bring the word count down.
I would love to! My email is - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Go ahead and send the pages my way

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
@Sarah—I've been doing more than 100 words per day, I just keep having to go over the same parts to clear them up. I hope I won't have any problems reaching my end goal! The beginning was the most flabbily plotted, though—like, sometimes for fun I'd think about how I'd make the novel into a movie script, and in my daydreaming I always cut about 1/3 - 1/2 of the beginning events. Maybe I should've picked up on the problem a while ago.
I'm sure I have at least 2k more I can squeeze out, which would get me down to…115k. Which isn't horrible. But I'm hoping for more. I think I can do it. And sweet! You'll be getting an email…later today, hopefully.

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
Hello there everybody
It's been been such a long time since I came here :O I have been and still am preparing for my exams that are mostly in June. So much has happened in the last few months! I have started a few projects that have nothing to do with writing and some that are. One of the projects is creating my own non profit organization(I have a call planned for next week to see how I am going to do that). I am also, with a few friends, thinking about making a web series and doing some acting maybe. I have taken a break from making my youtube videos because I just don't really have the time but I will continue this Summer the moment I have finished my exams. I have also cvreated my own website and continued writing poetry but my novel hasn't really progressed since December last. My facebook page reached 100 likes and then went down to 98 xD but well that isn't important x') So many other thing have happened but I have to go eat now haha I will try to come back as soon as possible and more often but I can't promise anything

Re: *pokes life back into forums*
@Sarah I haven't started quite yet. I'm still figuring out the details. It seems like everyday a character decides that it wants to be something else. Also I have trouble naming things but as soon as exams are done, I'm siting down and starting to actually plan everything out.
I'm mostly jotting down scenes and what I want to happen in a certain chapter and that sort of thing. I'm mostly working on the characters right now because I'm good at making up cool characters, I'm just not good at making them consistant.
Well actually, as soon as I print out some study notes I plan on actually writing something. Either the first chapter or maybe a short story dealing with one of the characters.
I have no probably writing lots though because I do ramble alot
Oh! and yes I love the Infernal Devices, or the clockwork series. Anythings Shadow hunters is gonna be one of my favorite books. XD
