QOTD Monday May 9
Sorry I missed yesterday! It was a busy day. Here's todays!
QUESTION: Male main characters or female? Why?
QUESTION: Male main characters or female? Why?
Re: QOTD Monday May 9
Females, because I don't have enough confidence in my writing ability––I think if I wrote a male main character at this point, he'd sound like a girl. :p

Whichever fits the story. Usually guys, because I'm a guy, but my last project had a female MC (the first 500 words of which were posted on the site for critique), and my current one has one, too (along with two guys...I'm really not sure which one of them is the main character, yet, if there is one. XD) I've never really had a problem writing a female POV. >_>
Re: QOTD Monday May 9
I think that it's probably easier for guys to write in female POV because girls can be tough and no one thinks twice. But if guys are girly, everyone notices.

Re: QOTD Monday May 9
Yay! I have internet again!!! *happy dance* Okay, now onto answering the question...
Females, for three reasons. 1. I think I can better write in a girls perspective because I am one and like Constance I think that if I wrote in a guys perspective he'd sound like a girl haha. 2. When a story idea comes to me it come with a main character and so far they've all been females. And 3. If I were to write in a guys perspective it would be in 3rd person and I'm really really really bad at that. I know I need to practice... but I'm busy So yeah, no guys for MC's (though I do tend to make a guy the MC's best friend/person she's around the most)
@Constance I agree with you. It seems like it would be easier for guys to write in a female POV because girls can be tough and tom-boyish and no one cares but everyone cares if he guy is too girly.

Re: QOTD Monday May 9
Half and half? lol, I have 2 female PoV characters and 2 male. I like the variety, but I feel much insecurity about how girly or manly my male characters are turning out. I generally worry about one more than the other, b/c one is set in my head all the time, and the other kind of drifts away from me when I turn around for a second. So it's been a constant struggle. But worth it when(if) I get it right. And for the series as a whole...6 men and 3 ladies. So I'm glad I'm working on/sorting out these gender problems now.
Re: QOTD Monday May 9
I don't really have any problems with the female PoV or older guys(mature) but I do with the young immature guys even though I am a guy I just don't understand them that well xD
Re: QOTD Monday May 9
I want to write a male MC really bad. But I think I have enough trouble writing a female MC that I won't be trying it for a while lol.

Re: QOTD Monday May 9
Hmm interesting question. *thinks back over novels* I interchange male and female based on how the story comes to me. I didn't think twice about adding my villain as an ominous, nameless POV character in Splashback, and I think he turned out manly. Sooooooo no! No problems with writing gender! Prolly b/c I'm half guy anyway.
Re: QOTD Monday May 9
I love all these answers! For the most part I agree with Constance and am a bit jealous of those of you who can write both, and well. *cough*Taryn*cough* And you made me chuckle, Shahira. xD
Re: QOTD Monday May 9
@Taryn Yep, he was manly. He was also psychotic, but really, that's a small price to pay for a non-girly male. q:

@Constance LOL I love him. He's just misunderstood. *cough* I think I have Stockholm Syndrome.
Re: QOTD Monday May 9
@Taryn I loved him too... I think I mentioned that. But misunderstood? That's a stretch. And if he IS misunderstood, it's you're fault, Miss Writer!
