Subjects you write about
Do you have particular personalities, ideas or places that come back in whatever you write?
I know that when I write the age of the main characters are very often the same and they have similar personalities even though I'm working on making them different or completely opposite they still are to alike the same for physical traits will be too similar.

I tend to have very diverse personalities, across all nine MCs for the whole series. There are certainly a few similar ones--I have two perfectionists in the first book, because I am one. But they're of different genders, so that mixes it up. Right now, I have an equal number of girl and guy characters, 2 & 2, but in the next book, there's one girl and three guys, and I add one more guy in the next. I blame this on my tomboy past.
But in my other project, I have one book with a girl MC, and one with a guy, and then the next project has only a girl, so I suppose my genders tend to stay pretty balanced. It's not really a pattern so much as equality. I guess a pattern I'm seeing with my character story arcs is delving into the darkest bits of their souls, then redeeming them. I barely touch on that in the first book, but the rest are chock full of it. As for setting, I also have tons of diversity--each book is set in a place that's tangential to a different culture on Earth.
This isn't really an answer to the question but...I'm playing around with a new idea that might get written in ten years, after I've taken a handful of psychology courses--a sociopath with supernatural empath abilities. I think it would be really chilling and cool, if done right. So I'm not going to touch it until I know exactly what I'm talking about, lol.

Re: Subjects you write about
When I write I tend to write about things or subjects I know a lot about. Which is why I have certain traits come back a lot. I want to know everything or as close to possible to that about a subject before I write about it I just want what I write to be as close to perfection as you can go that is maybe why I haven't finished my novel yet, I just am not sure where it would be best to start the story and then there is another problem knowing what names to use or create for the characters and the places where the story is based even though again I am not sure of the best order for my ideas.
Re: Subjects you write about
I usually try to have a bitchy frenemy, interestingly enough. They take some negative aspect of me and explore it. In my querying novel, I took my jealousy and gave it to the best friend of my MC. In my revising one, there's a super moody girl. My writing one has an arrogant girl (one of the MCs, not a friend, but whatever).
Other things:
Hmm. Can't think of anything else. I usually write girls, but I write whatever the story comes as.

Re: Subjects you write about
All my characters tend to have different personalities. I have one that's really arrogant (working on revisions to fix that ) I have another is really sweet but refuses to settle for anything less than what she wants. So far, I only have one character that's anything like me and that's because she's based on me. As for places, I tend to write about any where and everywhere though I do like when its similar to where I live because then I don't have to do a lot of research. Age on the other hand tends to be the same as mine or a year older. I have quite a few 16 year olds but every time there is a reason why they are that age. And physical traits are always way different.

Like Stephen, my characters tend to be around the same age and have some really similar qualities. Similar to myself, actually. Particularly in the low-tolerance aspect. ^^ But I worked to really branch out this past novel.
Re: Subjects you write about
If the characters were too much like me there would be no story, you need someone who acts before he thinks otherwise there would be no real beginning lol
