QOTD Saturday June 18
I adore Saturdays *cough* For some reason I thought it was Friday. Well, I love Saturdays too!
QUESTION: What helps inspire you for novels? Music? Photos? Landscapes? Reading another story? How about something that happens in your life? Or do inspirations just come on their own?

Inspirations come on their own a lot, but I do get inspired by music or movies or nature. I never know when looking at/listening to/watching something will be a spark or just something I enjoyed. For a recent example, I just expected X-Men: First Class to be an incredibly awesome movie. And it was! But it also inspired one of my characters becoming paralyzed in a later book. And I'm really excited about it. XD
Re: QOTD Saturday June 18
I got a story idea while I was watching the Green Lantern last night! Music inspires me to write, but only on rare occasions do I get story ideas from listening to it. Other than that, they come when they want, willy-nilly, without rhyme or reason.
Sometimes they come from life. Like earlier, I was speedi––I mean, I was driving under the speed limit like a law-abiding citizen that would NEVER go over the speed limit just because she's late for a wedding, and I thought, between the "Ah I'm going to miss it!!!" and the "I hope I don't pass a co––" (Not that I would have to think that. Because I wasn't speeding or anything... *shifty eyes*). Anyway, I thought, "Wow, this could make a good start for a story."
So yeah. They can come at any point. It's kind of interesting how it works.

(Psst. It's Saturday. :-P)
I get a lot of inspiration from music. I actually made a playlist on youtube of all the songs that have directly inspired things I've written (or things I planned on writing at one point). XD I've been inspired by a picture once...I wrote a short story off of it. Well -- most of a short story. I haven't actually finished it yet.

@Amanda Ooo, definitely! I totally agree. And paralyzed-- wow! I remember talking about how we hate damaging characters for life, like removing limbs and stuff. Doesn't paralyzing fall into that category??
@Twin Was Green Lantern good?? And I loves you, haha!
@Andre You're right. O_O *goes to change* Nice! Music, definitely.

Lol, Amanda [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] about this--we saw X-Men: First Class, and it changed her/our mind(s) about character maiming. Complete romantic tragedy on the other hand…(we then saw Becoming Jane and discovered we can't stand characters who condemn themselves to long lives of unhappiness. We made up an alternate ending, so it's not depressing. )Lizzy wrote:@Amanda Ooo, definitely! I totally agree. And paralyzed-- wow! As for what inspires me…anything artsy and epic. If a book is elegant and awesome, it inspires me to go work on my stuff, to emulate those qualities. Like, The Thief totally motivates me when I contemplate its awesomeness, and it had me wanting to write for three hours after I finished it--I couldn't get my story out of my head, but I had to sacrifice that time to editing. *le sigh*
Music, photos, and landscapes(not so much, but sometimes. Generally, if it's raining.)--they all work. Most of the time I don't get inspiration from my own life, though. (It's just that boring. ) Sometimes something will spark a train of thought that will take me to inspiration, but it's a long trip.
Re: QOTD Saturday June 18
@Renee Cooool! And making up alternate endings is TOTALLY acceptable. I did that with Pirates 3. And DEFINITELY raining.
Re: QOTD Saturday June 18
@Twin It was!! *glares at André* I loved it. I think Green Lantern is my new favorite superhero.

I want to watch Green Lantern only because I have a huge crush on Ryan Reynolds.
But I get inspired from random things. Music/movies/dreams/driving. I love those moments though, when an idea pops up in my head out of nowhere &I have to scramble to write it down before I forget. :]

@Shahira--James McAvoy is better. Just sayin'. (Green Lantern was pretty good, though.)

Everything I hear, see, visit, touch, smell, taste, read helps me in some way
Re: QOTD Saturday June 18
Amanda, James McAvoy was Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class, right? *glances at Green Lantern* *glances at X-Men* Okay, I agree with you. James McAvoy was frikking hot in that movie. And it was a wonderful movie, of course.

I dunno, Ryan Reynolds IS pretty buff.... *ponders* But McAvoy is still better. Cause he was maimed.

EXACTLY(about being maimed). Plus, Ryan Reynolds looks kinda 'average attractive white male w/ good arms' to me. McAvoy is more unique. And he has an awesome accent.
Re: QOTD Saturday June 18
Agreed. Amanda, you're opinions are spot-on awesome. Couldn't have said it better myself.
