Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hi guys! I just joined yesterday (I participated in the agent chat with Victoria Marini, so some of you may already know me.)
Before I start, I HAVE to reply to Constance because I saw her posts on this thread: LOL I'm from Texas, too, but I really am Korean. Just thought it was funny (and coincidental, maybe?) that you guys were talking about that.
1. How old are you? 17. But I feel older. Sometimes. But other times I feel younger.
2. What do you like to write / read? I read basically everything YA but my favorites tend to be Urban Fantasy. Thus, I write YA Urban Fantasy.
3. How long have you been writing? I wrote my first picture book in second grade but in terms of novels...hm, I started writing in fourth grade...so I've been writing for 8 years? Right? Someone check my math. Calculus destroyed my arithmetic skills. I'm probably going to have to tote my graphing calculator to do groceries.
4. How long have you been reading? Since I learned how to.
5. What's a random fact about you? I finished my first novel and queried it when I was fourteen...and got 20+ rejections in a row. Oh, man. I was devastated then but now it's just vaguely funny. I DID learn a lot, though.
6. It's 4 in the morning. You find yourself in a grocery store and very hungry. What's the first thing you think to buy? YOGURT. Yes, seriously. I am a yogurt-addict. Greek yogurt, yoplait yogurt, gogurt yogurt, Korean yogurt, you name it. When I go to college, I'll probably live off of nothing but yogurt.
I look forward to meeting/talking with all of you! I'm kind of sad that I didn't find this great site earlier on.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
WELCOME Lnlee! I remember you, and I'm super glad you're here. Korean and living in Texas is an awesome combination, and has Constance written all over it. *grins* So I have to ask, can you actually speak Korean?
Re: Introduce Yourself!
Thanks for the warm welcome, Lizzy! Yes, I am fluent in speaking and listening. I can also read and write but I'm not really fluent (at least, not as fluent as I'm in English)...my level is of, like, a fourth grader. LOL

Re: Introduce Yourself!
@Lnlee I'm actually Lizzy, not Constance, but you're welcome all the same! ^^ Really!? That's awesome! I began learning Korean at one point. I got as far as memorizing the alphabet (how to read/pronounce it) and reading a few minor words like 'hello', 'thank you' and 'goodbye'. Then I had to give it up because it was time to learn French. I might pick it up again one day.
Re: Introduce Yourself!
LOL I am SO sorry, Lizzy. Constance tweeted me at the time I was writing the post so my head got her mixed up with you. (It's like you guys are really twins! lol). I went back and fixed it as soon as I wrote the post.
And French is the one language I'll never be able to get.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Lnlee! Welcome.
WOW. *takes a moment to freak out in a happy way* You're in Texas AND Korean? You're pretty much my new favorite person!
...Er. Besides Twin. *cough* Love you the most, Lizzy. Really. >.>
Where in Texas are you from? I mean, East, South, West? Central? I don't want to pry if you don't want to share... but I'm super curious.
Best. Coincidence. Ever.
I was going to ask if you speak Korean, but Twin beat me to it... So... That's awesome. How long have you lived in Texas?
And when Twin says she MIGHT pick it up again, she means she WILL pick it up again. Just as soon as she has mastered French.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
@Constance LOL I don't mind you asking. I'm actually not sure where I would be classified as...northern central...east? (*fails at geography as well as math*) I'll make this easier on myself and say I live a few miles north of Dallas. I've lived in Texas for...oh, wow, seven years already. Huh. That's actually the longest time I've spent in one place. Before that, I lived in FL, CA, and Korea.
Re: Introduce Yourself!
Oooh! My dad lives around there... Sort of? He lives in Richardson. I THINK that is around there... *my geography skills are questionable as well* But anyway. Awesome.
And, I understand. I'm TERRIBLE at math.
Oh, Florida is HUMID. O_O I mean, more so than Texas.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Richardson is about 15 minutes south of where I live. And yes, I had to look that up on google maps. *epic fail*
And YES Florida is very, very humid. Lizards/gators (not as frequently, thank goodness)/and frogs have a tendency to pay unwelcome visits into your backyard (and sometimes inside your house). My school was about three blocks away from the beach.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hm. That's pretty awesome.
I would have had to look, too. xD
O_O ...Gators? Oy vey.
The beach is good! The beach closest to me (Galveston) is... bleh. But I love other beaches.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hi everyone! *waves* In my eagerness, I made a "Hello" post already, but I'll introduce myself here as well.
1. How old are you?--I recently turned eighteen, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.
2. What do you like to write / read?--I've pretty much always written fantasy (sometimes epic, complete with dragons, oracles and whatnot, but sometimes it's fantasy only because it takes place in a secondary world) but recently I got an idea for a sci-fi/dystopian-type-thing that's really been sticking with me, so...it might be time for a genre change. In terms of reading, I tend to stick with classics (Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, LOTR, Dracula) and dystopian/fantasy.
3. How long have you been writing?--As long as I can remember, honestly.
4. How long have you been reading?--Since I was around six. I was a relatively late reader, but very shortly after I actually learned how to read, I dove into Tolkien. Yeah, I was a strange kid.
5. What's a random fact about you?--I tend to assume that, since I'm a teen, I write YA. As it is, though, my voice apparently doesn't *sound* YA...even though the characters are teens and are dealing with teen stuff. It's inconvenient.
6. It's 4 in the morning. You find yourself in a grocery store and very hungry. What's the first thing you think to buy?--Bagel chips with sea salt. Mmmmm...
I'm so glad to have found this group! Digital cookies for everyone.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
YAY! Another epic fantasy/fantasy person! I dabble in other genres, but epic fantasy is what I've worked on the longest. I already said it on the first intro, but welcome!
Re: Introduce Yourself!
*high fives for dragons and fantasy and digital cookies* SO glad you're here!
Re: Introduce Yourself!
My first thought after reading this? "Please be my friend."
When you said you've read Tolkien at 6, I thought immediately of André; he's not around much because he's crazy busy with school, but he's the first person I think of in reference to LotR these days. ^^
I feel like I had so much more to say......But it's gone now. Alas.
I might've mentioned this once or twice, but I'm so glad you're here! <-(Cause there weren't any sparklies. We should fix that.)

Re: Introduce Yourself!
I think that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Cookies and dragons for everyone! (Well, only if they're friendly dragons. I hear that you should never look a live dragon in the mouth.)
Really, though, this is *such* a great resource, and I'm so happy to meet you all!

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Me too! ^^
Yes...I'm all for dragons, but I'll have te regretfully pass on the unfriendly ones. Mother would never allow me to keep it.
It is! There is actually submissions open on the blog right now for an "Are You Hooked" session––it's explained there. You should check it out! (Knowing my luck, you already have and I'm saying something for no reason. )

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Not to confirm your luck, but... I actually did enter it with an excerpt of my primary WIP, and I'm really looking forward to getting some advice on it--first chapters are not my strong point. So, um, yeah...I might be begging for help from all of you in the writing feedback forum very shortly.
Re: Introduce Yourself!
Oooh, nice!! *prepares best advice* I love first pages. But yeah, they can be killer hard!
Re: Introduce Yourself!
*snaps* Darn. But yay! I should enter something too.... That'll probably be tomorrow's project.
They can be hard, but they're some of my favorites to write! Beginnings and endings are just so much fun.
I can't promise how good my advice might be, but Maggie Twin has excellent advice. She's just awesome like that. ^^

Re: Introduce Yourself!
I'm guessing I should probably post something here.
So yeah, I'm Taylor, I'm 15, I love to read and write fantasy and I sometimes indulge myself in reading a romance. I've been writing about eight or nine years, at least, that's when I started to enjoy it. Otherwise, I hated to write anything. I have been reading since I was about 4our or 5ive, starting with names in the "Little House on the Prairie" series.
My first writing was supposed to be a script, but it was in storybook form and was about three pages long, which took me about three weeks to write. I had though it was really good, but now, looking back at it, it sucked.
My favourite TV show is "7th Heaven" but I know it's really stupid. My other favourite is "The Mentalist".
A random fact about me is that when I write number between 0 and 9, I like to spell the word out, but replace the first letter with the number. (e.g. 0ero, 1ne, 2wo...)

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Nice to meet you, Taylor!! I was wondering about the number/word things. I thought it was something European. XD
Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hi Taylor! It's wonderful to meet you. I love fantasy too!
That number thing is quirky, but awesome! ^^

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hey, all I'm Stephanie. 19. I write young adult science fiction and fantasy, and I primarily read books in those genres. I've been writing since I was 3. I finished my first "book" at 7, or so. I queried my first novel at 13 (erm. yeah.). I've been reading just as long.
Random fact about me: I also write music, and I'm an aspiring filmmaker studying film production at a university. Other random fact: The stars are my favorite.
If I were hungry at 4 in the morning...I'd buy ice cream.
I blog here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
And I tweet: @StephanieEDiaz
